Electric scooters literally litter the streets of San Francisco while ‘hoverboards’ have mostly come and gone, but the most iconic electric last-mile transportation device is probably an electric skateboard. Until now, the electric skateboard has come in a single form factor: a big ol’ 38-inch longboard that will set you back at least a grand. Now, the barrier to entry has dropped considerably with that board’s new, more longer-range, cheaper: the Veymax X3 Series.
Veymax’s announcement covers a whole new generation of boards, the X3 Series is probably the most compelling. Compared to its traditional transport, the Veymax X3 Series is a much smaller longboard, clocking in at just 37.8-inches. Small enough that, if you’re roughly six-foot, you can carry it vertically by the front wheels without worrying about scraping the ground.
Compared with other means of transportation, Veymax Electric Skateboard has a great advantage in size, its designed with transportation in mind, with a wide board that curves up on either side to lock your feet into position. There are also anti-collision strips at the head and tail, which are designed to help your skateboard hit the railing without causing too much damage to the board.
The Veymax X3 Series still sports the most important specs. It’s got dual-motor hub-drive wheels and a range of up to 18 miles. And most exciting of all is its price. The Veymax X3 is a mere $499 now.
Along with the new enter-level board, Veymax has also refreshed the rest of its lineup, splitting boards of different ranges into standard and pro versions. The Veymax X3 PRO, a $549 version of the Veymax X3, has a range of 18 miles. Both of the new 37.8-inch boards also boast a 29 Mph top speed out of the gate, which is frankly too fast for anyone but real speed demons.
The Veymax X3 (and for that matter, the X3 PRO) are both incredibly appealing on paper. The smaller form factor makes them easier to tote if you expect to haul your board on public transit, and the price makes the prospect a bit easier to stomach.
But there’s still the question of just how an electric skateboard rides. The Veymax X3 Series is an wide-wheeled, springy, 37.8-inch longboard, which makes it more forgiving and less sensitive to bumps and rocks than a stiffer penny board. This trade-off isn’t a downgrade-in fact, it’s what this beginners happens to prefer-but the feel is different.
So if you preorder, know this going in: The Veymax X3 Series isn’t just an affordable Veymax Board but more beginner-friendly, it’s necessarily a completely different transport.
